Jason Shelton
I grew up on a family-owned beef farm in Louisiana and earned a degree in zoology and a master’s and PhD in non-ruminant nutrition. After few years with the company, I was selected to help lead the growth of Cargill’s pet and equine business and then led Cargill’s Research and Development teams across all species, including developing the vision and strategy for R&D more generally. I then moved to China to help build a research program in Asia and to lead the technology team, then moved to the Netherlands to lead the global technology team to help merge the newly-acquired Provimi business with Cargill Animal Nutrition. After that I moved to Russia, where I served as the Managing Director of the Cargill Animal Nutrition business. I returned to the United States in 2018, serving as the Core Nutrition Director for Cargill Animal Nutrition and also providing technical leadership on international development projects such as Hatching Hope. In March 2021, I was named Chief of Party – USAID TRANSFORM which is a program to improve human health through animal agriculture specifically looking to reduce risk of antimicrobial resistance, zoonosis and transboundary animal disease.
