Market System Analyses of Poultry, Rice, and Soy in the DRC
These reports were written by Wellspring Development and Gregoire Poisson (Consultant — Team Lead), Joel Moktar (Wellspring Director), and Michael Shaw (Wellspring Director) for the DAI-led Feed the Future Market Systems and Partnership (MSP) Activity.
These three market systems analyses are part of a larger body of work in which Wellspring Development — through MSP — is supporting the USAID Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) to help identify sectors to prioritize and identify partnership opportunities within these sectors to inform future programming. We share these reports in the hope that they will be useful to other donors, implementing organizations, as well as private sector companies, looking to work in the DRC, either in the poultry, rice and soy sectors. The reports examine cross-cutting issues related to agriculture in the the DRC. The reports are:
- Poultry in the Democratic Republic of Congo—A Market Systems Analysis
- Rice in the Democratic Republic of Congo—A Market Systems Analysis
- Soybean in the Democratic Republic of Congo—A Market Systems Analysis
The research project has three key phases:
- Developing a shortlist of 10 potential market systems for intervention and identifying 3 among the list for deep-dive investigations;
- Developing 3 market systems analyses of these three sectors (poultry, soy and rice), which are published here;
- Finalizing partnership reports for these three sectors, looking at specific firms and the constraints they face to growth within these three sectors. The report looks at 15 firms in total, 5 from each sector.
