Currently Board Member (Innovation) at Gracefulnature, in Portugal, CEO at THINK, a consultant company in Guinea-Bissau and researcher within CEAUP (Centre for African Studies at Porto University), João, ha a long career in research in engineering, IT and Process management. In 2010 kicked off a career devote to Human development in Africa.

Carried work and expertise includes Civil/Hydraulics Engineering, System Modelling, Data Mining, Data Fusion, Development Economics and lately, constructed a solid field experience in water supply systems in West Africa.

In Africa has been working in several countries, including Mali, Senegal, Burkina Faso, Guinea-Bissau, Angola, Mozambique, South-Africa, Morocco, Tunisia and Egypt from which, professionally, worked as:

  • Lead expert in the PASA-HRS programme (water supply for 87 villages in Guinea-Bissau, including monitoring systems development)
  • Programme coordinator for the design of the programme “Groundwater monitoring systems and related safety” (programme CEGRISS below detailed), which included, amongst others, the intense cooperation with the Fraunhofer Institute, Electricidade de Portugal, the Indian Institute of Technology, the Water Research Institute (UK), the Polish Geological Institute and NASA.
  • Lead expert for the development of a non-linear simulation tool for the transport of liquid and gas fluids and risk assessment methods for storage in Portugal, Holland, France and Turkey
  • Lead assessor for the logistics framework of the COSPACES collaborative engineering and networked monitoring framework, involving major engineering and industrial companies across Europe
  • Integrated River basin monitoring (Angola and Guinea-Bissau)
  • GIS integrated modelling
  • Professor (Universidade Lusófona) in data acquisition systems

João published research in several conferences and several books.
