The course is designed to renew our commitment to and a deeper understanding of the power of policy to achieve Feed the Future objectives and support countries toward self-reliance. The course is also designed to build a policy community for USAID technical staff who can draw upon each other’s experiences across various and diverse policy issues, about to communicate with a common language and support each other towards a common objective of inclusive, transparent, evidence-based policy systems.

Audience

This course is designed for select USAID staff, including mission policy points of contact.

Learning Objectives

  • Articulate the importance of policy for achieving the objectives of GFSS and supporting countries on the journey to self-reliance.
  • Describe a policy system, its changing context, and its components: policy agenda, institutional architecture and mutual accountability.
  • Improve ability to recognize where there is an opportunity for policy and when policy is a solution to a constraint.
    • Describe the entry points to improving the system to move the policy agenda forward.
    • Determine if and when there is sufficient evidence that supports policy best practices. 
  • Understand the diversity of policy stakeholders, how to assess capacities and support their roles.
  • Apply tools to frame and structure policy support programs within your area.
  • Develop a plan to implement ‘best fit’ practices for addressing your own country/region policy needs and opportunities.
