Soma Kumari Rana is originally from Arghakhanchi, Nepal. She holds a Master degree (Sociology) from Tribhuvan University, Nepal and MSc degree in International Organic Agriculture from the University of Kassel, Germany. Her key areas of expertise are Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI), policy advocacy and sustainable agriculture development and agriculture-based rural livelihoods, food security and nutrition, climate change adaptation, training and advocacy, and institutional capacity-buildings of the local and national level organizations. She has contributed to the above-mentioned fields for more than 20 years as a frontline extension worker and a program manager/coordinator in different national and international organizations in Nepal. This includes over 9 years experience with lead GESI portfolio as a thematic specialist in the sustainable development and livelihoods management and women empowerment project and more than 3 year of experience in training and advocacy – diverse skill and knowledge in facilitating training needs assessment, training design, training material development and delivery of training and meeting/workshops and seminars at local, national and other international stakeholders.

She has a high level of collaboration and networking with civil society organizations, national and international non-governmental organizations, and a strong working relationship with policy and decision makers of Nepal. She had broad experience with many donors and international institutions – has worked on projects and programs funded by CIDA, CCA, CARE, SDC, UN, CECI, GIZ, FLEM, UMN, USAID etc

Currently, MS Rana is working as a GESI and Government Linkage Lead in iDE (International Development Enterprises) Nepal.
