Ignacie Tumushime

United States Assistant Director for Africa The Borlaug Institute for International Agriculture and Development

Ignacie Tumushime has a Ph.D. degree in Ecosystem Science and Management from Texas A&M University, Texas, USA, an MSc Degree in Agricultural Sciences and Biological Engineering from Université de Liège - Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech, Belgium, and a BSc in Agricultural Engineering from the University of Rwanda. She is an Assistant Director for Africa at the Norman Borlaug Institute for International Agriculture and Development at Texas A&M University. She has extensive university teaching experience both in Rwanda and the US. She also has extensive experience working in agricultural and rural development sectors including European Union and World Bank-funded projects in Rwanda. She authored and co-authored a couple of scientific articles published in different high-ranking soil science and forestry journals.  She also has authored and co-authored several technical reports that have been presented to forest industry groups. . Dr. Tumushime is a recipient of the Schlumberger Foundation Faculty for the Future Fellowship and OGAPS Dissertation Fellowship. She also received several travel grants from Texas A&M University to present her research findings to fellow scientists at different international conferences. Overall, she has engaged with the national and international scientific community and with colleagues within Texas A&M University and the Department of Ecosystem Science and Management. Beyond Texas A&M University, different organizations have recognized Dr. Tumushime’s ability to contribute as a scholar. She is a member of several organizations/societies including the Soil Science Society of America, Crop Science Society of America, America Society of Agronomy, Ecological Society of America, American Geophysical Union, Women Graduates-USA, and International Federation of University Women. She fluently speaks French, English, and other African languages.
