
Erin Markel
Erin has spent her career researching, implementing and measuring market-based social impact solutions. Erin is passionate about using systems-thinking and data to design creative impact solutions for private and public institutions. Erin believes that purpose-driven business can drive social transformation, which is now a business imperative and must be accessible for all types of companies – big and small, and across the developed and developing world. Erin is a Founder of MarketShare Associates (MSA), a global firm of creative facilitators, strategists, economists and experienced research and data nerds who offer public sector decision makers access to a new generation of market and social insights for forecasting and measuring human behavior and social outcomes. Erin has led work with private companies, accelerators, impact investors and governments. Clients have included: Techstars, AECF Africa, AgDevCo, World Bank, ILO, PWC, DAI, Habitat for Humanity, USAID, DFID, TradeMark East Africa, MasterCard Foundation, Aga Khan Development Network, etc. Erin is well published in measuring social outcomes, having authored the DCED Standard on measuring women's economic empowerment in private sector development under the IFC. Erin was previously the team lead on Market Development and Access to Finance at the Aga Khan Foundation Canada. She managed a team that oversaw projects in Pakistan, Tajikistan and India. She also worked for Women’s World Banking, ProMujer International, and the Council of Women World Leaders. Erin holds a Master of International Affairs in Economic Development from Columbia University.
