Thus what % of women are in an adversarial relationship in need of empowerment vs in a congenial relationship collaborating with thier partners? 2 upvotes | 1 answer | 0 reply Hazel Malapit answered - Thanks for your question Richard. Our definition of women's empowerment draws from Naila Kabeer (1999), which defines empowerment as the ability of an individual to make strategic life choices, particularly in areas where this has been denied. It does not focus on adversarial relationships necessarily, and can be measured for both women and men. [09:12 AM] Legesse Abate asked : The tools of WEAI are interesting to apply. I conducted a Baseline survey for WEAI for my project. During data collection we missed to collect data from women and men in the same household but collected from women and men as a sample. But we can't analyze GPI. Is there a way to calculate WEAI. 2 upvotes | 2 answers | 0 reply Hazel Malapit answered - you can still construct 5DE for women and men separately. Unfortunately, no, you cannot construct GPI if you don't have a woman and man respondent are from the same household. Hazel Malapit answered - You also cannot construct WEAI without GPI, so 5DE is the only index you can construct. However, even that is informative as you can disaggregate the indicators to see which ones contribute the most to disempowerment. [09:27 AM] Caroline Deschak asked : Hi, thanks for this great presentation.
