Activity Title: Large-Scale Food Fortification (LSFF) Activity
USAID is pleased to share the Request for Information (RFI) for USAID’s Bureau for Resilience and Food Security (RFS) Large-Scale Food Fortification (LSFF) Activity.
Good nutrition is vital to human health and development. Yet, vitamin and mineral deficiencies (i.e., micronutrient deficiencies) continue to affect much of the world's population, in particular women and children, threatening their survival and limiting their future potential and lifelong well-being. One of the most cost-effective interventions to address the global challenge of micronutrient deficiencies through the food system is LSFF, which entails improving the nutrient content of foods during the processing stage.
A resilient and sustainable food system includes processed foods that meet quality and safety standards, including LSFF standards for staple foods and condiments. USAID is well-positioned to continue leading efforts for LSFF through global leadership, context-specific expertise and partnerships with governments, private sector and civil society. With continued commitment and collaboration for such proven and systematic solutions, USAID’s vision is that dietary adequacy and reducing preventable morbidity and mortality through fortifying foods can be sustainably achieved. USAID has developed a working results framework as a tool to assess needs and opportunities, design, implement, monitor and evaluate, and adjust LSFF programming within local contexts. We recommend that all interested parties review the results framework before responding to this RFI.
RFS is publishing the RFI in order to obtain information and recommendations from all interested public and private parties on a global activity to support the implementation of safe, effective, efficient, scalable and sustainable LSFF programming to improve the micronutrient intake of vulnerable populations.
