Dealing Effectively with Shocks and Stressors: Youth Survey
The COVID-19 pandemic, desert locus infestations, conflict and other natural disasters are impacting youth in agri-food systems globally. Disruption to the food and water systems and severe economic dislocation are some of the resulting impacts of these shocks and stressors. How are youth coping? Where might opportunities exist to improve support for youth in agri-food and water systems? We do not have clear answers to these questions…yet.
YouthPower2: Learning and Evaluation (YP2LE), as part of our work on the Youth in Agri-food Systems Learning Activity (YASLA) under the USAID/Bureau for Resilience and Food Security (RFS), is working to answer those questions by asking youth (age 18-29) involved in all levels of the agri-food system how they respond to and recover from these challenges. The young people who participate will inform the future of youth-led and youth-focused programming. This study will help fill gaps in the current literature and understand how shock and severe stressors affect young people engaged in agriculture, food and water systems around the world.
We are currently seeking the help of youth-led and youth-serving organizations that are willing to help us capture diverse perspectives by disseminating our survey to the youth with whom they work. The final report will be publicly available and list the participating networks/organizations as cooperating agencies.
