Effective governance is crucial to the implementation of nutrition policies aimed at reducing chronic malnutrition, food insecurity, and micronutrient malnutrition. However, the assessment of governance strategies at both national and sub-national levels has remained a challenging aspect of nutrition programming, especially for multi-sector plans. In this webinar, we will explore novel strategies for measuring nutrition governance in the context of Ethiopia and Nepal.

Moderator:

Dr. Robin Shrestha - Dr. Robin Shrestha is regional project manager for the Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Nutrition. Dr. Shrestha received his Master’s in Science degree in Food Policy and Applied Nutrition at the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University and has a degree in Medicine with 8 years of clinical experience in rural settings of Nepal. He currently oversees and supports Nutrition Innovation Lab’s research and capacity building activities in Asia and Africa. 

Panelists: 

Dr. Eileen Kennedy - Dr. Eileen Kennedy is a former dean of the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy. Currently a professor at the School, Kennedy's research interests include assessing the health, nutrition, diet and food security impacts of policies and programs; nutrient density and diet diversity; and agriculture nutrition linkages. She has been a member of the High Level Panel of Experts on Food Security and Nutrition of the UN Committee on World Food Security and a member of the UN SCN Advisory Group on Nutrition. She founded and was the first Executive Director of the USDA Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion. She created the Healthy Eating Index which is used as a single summary measure of diet quality. 

Grace Namirembe - Grace Namirembe has been a data analyst at the Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Nutrition at Tufts University since 2015. She completed her Master of Public Health with special interest in Epidemiology and Biostatistics at Boston University.  She is working on multi-country projects, including projects in Nepal. Her most recent published work focuses on The Nutrition Governance Index (NGI), which is a novel metric to assess whether policy environments are conducive for the development and implementation of nutrition interventions. Grace’s other work in this area includes linking the NGI to nutrition outcomes in Nepalese children.

Dr. Shibani Ghosh - Dr. Shibani Ghosh is a research associate professor at the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy. She is also the associate director for the Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Nutrition with experience working in the Middle East, Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. Her research interests are in understanding the role of agriculture in improving nutrition while ensuring health, assessing the diet and non-diet determinants of nutritional status of infants and young children, and testing interventions aimed at improving maternal and infant nutrition and growth.
