Nutrition Olympiad 2018
Event Information
Child malnutrition has shown marked decline by a third since the mid-90s to the present time, but the levels of chronic malnutrition are still high with 36% of children being affected. If no rigorous actions are taken, Bangladesh to achieve the national development goals set in the Seventh Five Year Plan and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) of the 2030 Agenda will be hampered. To this end, we are immensely proud to announce the ‘Nutrition Olympiad 2018’ – “Empowerment and Nutrition of Youth for a Healthy Nation” - organized by Bangladesh Institute of ICT in Development (BIID) and the MUCH project, implemented by FAO (http://www.fao.org/bangladesh/en/) in collaboration with Food Planning and Monitoring Unit (FPMU), Ministry of Food on April 21 (Saturday), 2018 at Bangabandhu International Convention Centre (BICC), Agargaon, Dhaka. This event will be financially supported by the USAID and EU. Returning on a greater scale, the prime objective of the Olympiad 2018 is to strengthen a national platform for youth and relevant stakeholders for knowledge sharing and to demonstrate the potentials of youth engagement in nutrition activities towards improving diets and addressing malnutrition. This one-daylong Olympiad has a variety of entertaining and engaging activities lined up for youth participants such as street play, essay competition, food design competition, case study competitions, cooking competition and more. In addition, this year we aim to bring voices of youth to the national policy development and implementation. Esteemed experts and practitioners from diversified fields will join as judges, chairpersons, and panelists to listen to the youth experiences and expectations and to discuss and recommend their active and unique roles in combating malnutrition.
