was named Senior Deputy Assistant Administrator for the newly established Bureau for Food Security in November 2010, where he will oversee development activities associated with Feed the Future, the U.S. Government’s global hunger and food security initiative.

Mr. Gottlieb most recently served as the Mission Director in Namibia since August 2008.  Prior to his assignment to Namibia, Mr. Gottlieb served as Senior Deputy Assistant Administrator of USAID's Bureau for Democracy, Conflict and Humanitarian Assistance.  He has more than 25 years of experience with the U.S. government, NGOs, and the UN, primarily in the field of humanitarian relief.

Mr. Gottlieb began his USAID career in 1988 as the Disaster Response Coordinator in Malawi, subsequently serving in Sudan, Ethiopia and Kenya.   In 1999 he established the first regional USAID Office of U.S. Foreign Disaster Assistance in Africa while serving as the Senior Regional Advisor in Kenya. Much of his work has focused on improving disaster assistance as well as humanitarian and transition programs in order to ensure economic recovery.  He has also served as a protection officer for UNHCR and as Chief of Party of the USAID-funded Famine Early Warning System.

Mr. Gottlieb obtained his Bachelors' Degree from Humboldt State University in California, a Juris Doctor from Loyola Law School, and a Master's Degree from Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government. He is married and has two children.

Currently, he is a Senior Analyst in the Office of Science and Technology.  Prior to serving in his current post, he was the Office Chief in the Economic Growth Office at USAID/Nicaragua.  He has also worked for USAID in Tanzania as an Agricultural Officer.  Mr. Fondriest’s professional background is in agricultural development.  Before working for USAID, Mr. Fondriest served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Guatemala.  Other work experience includes the Congressional Office of Technology Assessment, the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum for Natural History, and the non-governmental organization Union of Concerned Scientists.  Mr. Fondriest has a Masters of Science in Biology with a focus in Insect Ecology.

Wendy Taylor is focused on identifying market-based solutions to address diseases and conditions of poverty in the developing world.  Currently, she is serving as Senior Adviser on Innovative Finance and Public Private Partnerships at the US Agency for International Development and helping launch the President's $63 billion Global Health Initiative.  Prior to her appointment, she was the Senior Vice President for Global Advocacy at Malaria No More, an organization focused on ending deaths from malaria.  In 2004, she founded Bio Ventures for Global Health (BVGH), a non-profit working to engage the biopharmaceutical industry to develop medicines for diseases of the developing world.  At BVGH, Wendy accelerated global health research and development by building partnerships, identifying market opportunities for industry engagement and advancing the development and implementation of new market incentives including the first Advance Market Commitment and FDA's Priority Review Voucher program.  Previously she served as Director of Regulatory Affairs and Bioethics for the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) where she negotiated the third reauthorization of the Prescription Drug User Fee Act (PDUFA) on behalf of the biotech industry and developed the organization's first global health program. 

Wendy also has extensive experience in the executive and legislative branches of the US government, including the Office of Management and Budget, where she oversaw FDA regulatory activities, and the U.S. House Committee on Ways and Means.  Wendy received a Master of Public Policy from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University and a B.A. from Duke University.  She serves on the North American Board of Medicines for Malaria Ventures.
